NABA is an Academy within the Higher Education Fine Arts System (AFAM) which is a department of the Italian Universities governed by the Italian Ministry of University, Education and Research (MIUR).

NABA educational offer includes Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs. Undergraduate Programs have a duration of three years and are activated by the single Schools, while Postgraduate Programs depend on the reference training areas they belong to. All qualifications granted by NABA are internationally recognised: the three-year Undergraduate Programs are equivalent to the BA (Bachelor of Arts) Programs and the two-year Postgraduate Programs to the MA (Master of Arts). Master Programs, with a duration of one year, correspond to a first level Italian university master.

In collaboration with other institutions, NABA promotes a Master Program in Landscape Design (Politecnico di Milano) and a Master Program in Photography and Visual Design (Forma – Centro Internazionale di Fotografia di Milano).

In addition to these Academic Programs, NABA offers special Programs for international students: Diploma Programs, Certificate Programs, Summer Programs, one-year and one-semester Programs in collaboration with Central Saint Martins College, Domus Academy, Philadelphia University, West Virginia University, Parsons Paris, AMD - Akademie Mode & Design and San Josè State University.

Since 2005 the Academy has also been part of the Ph.D. Program in Arts and Technologies developed by the Planetary Collegium based at Plymouth University (UK).
