The recent evolution of the concept of landscape, coincides with an inexorable anthropization of nature at a global level and the consequent abuse of environmental resources: this is generating an increased interest in the possible solutions to preserve, enhance, and design the land, through words such as ecology and environmental sustainability.
At the same time, the migration of millions of people towards urban environments, has prompted research into environmental issues related to food production, preservation of food quality, all the way up to the promotion of the incrementation of green acreage and biological surfaces in urban areas.
These actions are pushed by the need to create a new relationship amongst city, nature, and agriculture, and suggest the hypothesis of an environmental anti-sprawl. In addition, the increase of spontaneous actions of urban regeneration has promoted unprecedented practices within the design of public spaces, according to principles related to green-design, recycling of materials, collective gardening, environmental education, and increasingly popular participatory planning processes, even adopted by individual local governments. In these contexts, the design of the environment becomes a daily tool and practice, with actions connected to the development and creation of ecological habitats which are rich in bio-diversity, and which are able to generate rural economies, eco-sustainable tourism, leisure areas, sweet mobility, clean energy, green waters, within the new vision of a biological metabolism of the inhabited land.
The One-year Master Program Extraordinary Landscapes in Landscape Design wants to focus on those crucial topics, raised from both private and public institutions, administrations, and local government with the aim of meeting the demands of our contemporary landscape.
The One-year Master Program Extraordinary Landscapes in Landscape Design is organized in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano/Dipartimento Indaco.
